Rib Cracking Crash

29-09-2011

Hi all, Well it was the last day of racing out here in Australia befor the long flight back to the UK. Both me and Janette really looking forward to getting home and catching up with all our friends and family. Race 1 went ok. I was in 4th position on the first lap and managed to work up into 2nd by lap three, where i stayed for another two laps untill the chequred flag was shown. They were only 5 lap sprint races as this was a one off event where riders race for the title ‘KING OF THE SAND’ Race 2 i realised i had to get a better start if i wanted to be in with a chance of winning the overall. I made a good drop and powered along the start into the first corner, as i came off the gas and onto the brakes the front end of my bike washed out (lost grip). From this point there was nothing i could do to save it so had to let the crash run its cause. I felt a couple of bikes hit me, in pain i just laid there untill the doctors came to my assistance. Thanks to all the medical crew for all their help on the day, they took their time and made all the right moves. Anyway i short trip to hospital some x-rays, ultrasound and CT scans later i was told i had five broken ribs and a punctured lung!!!! The ribs will be sore and just heal on their own with time, as will the lung but it also means i can not fly home untill the puncture repairs. At the minute it is Thursday 18th at 10am and i am waiting for the doctor to visit my room and hopefully discharge me, Then return to hospital in around a weeks time for a re x-ray and hopefully be told it is now safe to fly!! Time has never gone so slow! Ha! A big thankyou to all my visitors Niel and Sara Calvin, Ma and Popsy Calvin, Michael and family, Charlie and Camo, Phil and Jeremy (Jack) Hammer. And last but not least Larry and Brenda for all your support. Also Janette for being a Girlfriend in a million and just getting on with things (including washing my feet). Mam, Dad and Jodie are also always at the end of skype to make time go faster. I will keep you all up to date with the recovery and be back on track ASAP. Jamie

Down Under!!!

Toowoomba left everything and i mean everything filthy, Larry being the type of man he is insisted on arranging us a hotel for the night befor we set off down the Sunshine Coast in search of Sydney, not only that but he took all of my dirty kit and returned it clean and dry afew days later when we arrived in perth. Thanks Larry! With the clothing taken care of this just left us with the boots, helmet, trainers and camper to clean. We set off from the hotel just befor dinner on Sunday evening in serch of a power wash- No luck so it was left to good old fashion elbow greese with water being supplied by BP’s awesome air and water stations found at most of their service stations. Everything now clean, along with a good feed and nights sleep we left on our little sight seeing adventure! First stop Surfers Paradise- With the time in Dubai i had chance to read a book on the life of the great Barry Sheen, It turns out in his last few years Barry and his family lived at Surfers Paradise so that gave us all the more reason to visit. Long beaches tall buildings and surfers, i dont think we expected anything different, kind of does exactly what it says on the tin! A walk around the town then luch at a beach bar (while dodging the killer seagulls) we then set off to our next destination. Byron Bay- Altho the weather took a turn for the worse this place has to be one of the nicest places we visited, a small town, small bay style beaches, cool shops and home to the most Easterly point of Australia mainland. The jucy was abandoned in a car park, jackets and shorts on (we thought less to get wet) and we hiked up to the light house wich overlooks the town. The view from the top was awesome even on the dull day we had been given. One of the places you visit and think you would definatly like to go back to.

Down Under 2!!!

22-06-2011

Hey all Sorry it has taken me so long to update - it feels like iv not had a minute spare over the last 6 weeks. Well apart from chilling in dubai or 5 days that is. Then from dubai it was on to brisbane, where Janettes cousin rob collected us from the airport and showed us round the place where he calles home, Malloolaba ! sun sea and sand, you can definatly understand why people get fed up of the english weather and move out there. so a big thanks Rob, Jayne and Dave for your hospitality! After a few days in and around Maloolaba including a visit to the ledegdary Steve Irwin zoo we took short train journey into brisbane where we picked up our jucy love mobile. A camper van no bigger than a car, complete with a double bed, stove, sink and a fridge. We left brisbane a short time later for toowoomba, round 5 of the Rockstar MX nationals. Friday the track looked real good infact they had the sprinkler system on. However Saturday night the heavens opened and sundays racing was turned into a trials ride, janette was cleaning clumps of mud from my boots and helmet all day and i think larry spent atleast 5hours of his day (along with neil) with power wash in hand. 15th race 1 – 9th race 2 – dnf race 3 due to track side banner getting caught up and locking my rear wheel solid – 9th race 4

Red Bull Pro Nationals

05-04-2011

First of all, Happy Mothers Day! I do believe i have 1 of the best out there, i didnt give her the day off tho as we had work to do ha. 16th in qualifying should have gave me a good inside gate for the first turn, but as usual the mx2 riders get to go to the line first, leaving me with 36th pick of the gate and left me nowhere to go but way on the outside for turn 1. race 1- a mad fight on the first lap got me up to 17th place, the track was so rough as it had not been graded frome the racing on saturday, i knew it would be a long race. I had some tough battles throughout the race with Sword and felt i rode strong from not such a good start. I was well happy with 8th after the 30minutes was up! race 2- just when i thought i coudnt get any worse off the start…… i did and to top it off i crashed after a coming together with another rider on the first lap, last place on lap 1. Head down and charging, i started to work back through the field. i knew i had a good winters training under my belt and could still be strong at the end of the race. 10th was the final result and a good confidence boost going into round 3 of the british championship at Lyng in 2 weeks time! The only down side to the weekend came in our last 5 minutes at fatcat when a heavy downpour soaked us all to the skin……! However my Girlfriend Janette had made a surprise apperance, traveling down to Doncaster with my good mate Javleg (finger), so we turned up jacko’s dance mix really loud on the journey home aboard the 4 potter, and all was soon forgotten. Top Mix !!!!! Im now thinking secret disco light switch in that tractor?????? pimp my John Deere. Until next time. Thanks jamie

MAXXIS ROUND 1

11-03-2011

Dry, but a cold day at Little Silver! but on the whole a good start to my 2011 race season. Race 1- My NME tweeked D3 ktm was hauling 2 the first corner, which made the first few laps go smoothly. sitting comfortably im 3rd for a good half of the race befor the dreaded arm pump set in. Trying my best 2 keep the pace, i lost a few places but was happy with the end result 8th. Race 2- Again after some bar banging in the first turn i came out in a top 10 position, the track at little silver is very tight and a few wrong decisions and 1 slip off in a tight right hand corner ment 14th at the flag was the best i could do. Race 3- Top 10 off the start but lost 2 many positions on the first lap. I was feeling real strong in the closing 5 minutes of the race but had a fairly big crash in the wave section with 4 laps to go- a loss of traction when entering the waves caused me to high-side. i managed 2 claw back 1 more position befor the flag. 14th. 13th overall on the day and 5 points off the top 10 in the championship going into round 2. Next i have the international at hawkstone park 20th, this should be good preperation for Maxxis round 2 the following weekend at canada heights.

Christmas 2010

13-01-2011

So its now 2011, it only seems 5 minutes since we were celebrating New Year 2010! Time flies when you’re having fun.....! That’s what this Christmas has been all about, I’ve had some time off from riding (mainly due to the weather) eaten lots of food and experimented with some new extreme past times , the first being snowboarding.... it came to me while driving along what seemed like an ice rink, with a big frown on my face, feeling angry at the World for the cold weather we had been given, a voice on the radio said “Ski Warehouse, board, boots and bindings £200" an idea sprung to mind and 2 days later we were off to Hartside Pass not deterred by the Pass being closed due to snow, I was having my first day snow boarding with the slightly toned Dan Sowerby, Dan is local and was a Contestant on Gladiators, crashes were high on the agenda for the day, everyone laughed it off tho, some crashes were even caught on camera so keep your eyes peeled on you’ve been framed as Dan try’s to make a sneaky buck!

I would say I had a good 5 days of boarding with Jeanette and the boys before the big thaw hit us, not a dry eye in sight, we rawed with laughter as we encouraged each other to build up to the, biggest crash award, (probably won by Jeanette, hitting her head so hard her wooly hat came off. The snow disappeared over night, so out came the shinny new KTM 350cc which I had picked up from D3 – KTM Dealers in Kendal, who are my new 2011 main sponsor, what can I tell you about the bike, in a word “awesome” it took a few sessions to get use to the KTM , but I now feel well at home on it, it responds to my every move, with enough power to pull you out of trouble but not as brutal as the 450, which can sometimes get you into trouble!

The last thing I have to tell u about is my new job as a farm hand, it was off to granny’s to help inject some sheep with a drug to clear up scab (little skin infection I think) my job was to hold them while granny injected- granny has names for her sheep as they are her pets, injections take place most days, I think it must be a steroid injection cause this first sheep was huge!!! All of a sudden, this particular sheep, seen 2 much day light and started to run for a small gap to exit the pen, it hit me as I would Imagine Mike Tyson would have and it picked up speed like Usaine Bolt, I knew this cos I was riding reverse 69 position on its back for around 50 meters before I managed to down her! The audience by now was hysterical, I think Julianne nearly peed herself, granny was shaking her head and Jeanette was mortified as her embarrassing boyfriend is lying in a heap on the floor, I was just thankful for the shiny blue trousers and lime green willies- fish out of water springs to mind for that day, I did renamed the sheep though “Tyson Bolt” is her new Show name.

Christmas has been a major family time which was really nice, and New Year was a T total celebration with 12 o'clock being celebrated on a jetty at DerwentWater in search of fireworks! Until next time I will be training and riding as much as possible so will update when I have something interesting to tell!

Best wishes for 2011 Jamie

Milton Malsor Finale.

29-10-2010

I qualified second, beating both Ray & Jamie Lewis, a late entry rider just beat me into poll in qualifying by a second and then went on to win all three races from holeshot starts, which also meant taking the points with the biggest margins My starts positioned me in about 5th/6th place round the first corners, I got to grips with the technicals of the track and with consistent precision lap times of 1.39, I gained the seconds, which left me having to force the passes, as the track was one line. I finished third in Race 1 & 2 a split second behind Ray at the line, and was second in Race 3. I was pleased to have moved up into second overall in the Championship but disappointed not to have won.

End of Season Thanks

29-10-2010

As mentioned in my last blog this was the most important race meeting of the year for me with the points so close, I wanted the win not just for me but for everyone involved in my race team this season. Firstly my local sponsors, Mark & Catherine at Lakeland Spas, the Hot Tub has helped the aches & pains and the cash injection certainly helped us to a great start, already on board again for next seasons along with Ken & Charlotte at Cumbria Cottages, who have helped keep all my back tyres rolling, Vixen Clothing & Debbie from First Image have done a great job of all my graphics and clothing and have over delivered on our initial deal to which I am really grateful for, Dave & Yvonne at M&D Electricals, sponsored my Shoei helmets and thanks to Mark at Feridax for the helmet discount, which meant I could have two for the price of one, Mackay Skip Hire thanks to you guys the cash paid for all front tyres and thanks also to Geoff at Knox, we have had an association over the past three years and developed a Motocross Body Armour which has really taken off in the MX world and as promised Geoff has made a major contribution to this season racing, again eternal thanks, as the season comes to an end, I go indoor fitness training and really appreciate Carlisle Leisure’s sponsorship for their refurbished new gym facility at Cockermouth and last but not least to Cumbria Pest & Hygiene Services my parents company, not only for the sponsorship but for all there support over the past 20 years of racing and Happy 50th Birthday Dad for last week. Thanks also to Gavin at Bikesport, without a bike dealer you cant access the racing discounts offered through Suzuki for bike & parts, and thanks to Suzuki I hope the 2nd Suzuki standing in the MX3 sits well above the other bikes. Thanks also to Fox clothing, Putoline Oils and Leon at Apico for plastics, sprockets handlebars etc all have been really appreciated. Thanks to RipnRoll for all my goggles and tear offs, Stuart at Dunlop Tyres, tyres make a huge difference at a race event and Stuart at NME developments for his expertise with my engine tuning and suspension and linking this in with DEP Pipes the Suzuki was working well, and finally to Charles at Relentless for keeping me well fuelled between races. I had Monday off and went for a family day out at Blackpool to celebrate finishing the season in one piece, which is a first for two years now, my winter off season training plan is being constructed, so next season I will be contesting the British Maxxis, Red Bull and British Masters Series and would love for you all to come back on board, I am focused and determined that next year I will be in the top ten all of the time pushing top fives. I hope your business has been noticed around the local paddocks as well as the out of area miles we have taken your logos this season or please give me a call if you would like any coverage or pictures of this season or if I can assist you with any advertising, photos, promotional leaflets for your business. Cheers & thanks again Jamie

July Update

05-08-2010

Just off to ladies night at Carlisle Races tonight, for a change of scenery haven’t a clue about horse racing so my weekends winnings will go out a lot easy than it came in. As the season reaches its height, racing has been fast & furious lately. British Masters at Pontrillis 3rd/4th July Walked the track on Saturday night and it was in bad shape very one line with nasty kickers, this doesn’t help the mind set and possibly added to a little negativity racing, I qualified 12th had a 15th & 19th in the races, not best pleased with myself, and after hurting my bad shoulder after a crash, I was just pleased to leave in one bit. 5th July – Track day at Olton Park with my mates Jonny Walker excellent trials rider making his name now in the Enduro Championship and my good mate Ben who fixes all my bashed up exhaust pipes. It chucked it down all day but one thing we did learn was how to ride in the wet and we did end up being the fastest group out there loved every minute of it. 7th July – Back to the Wednesday night series at my local track at the picturesque Bassenthwaite, with Charlotte and Ken from Cumbria Cottages getting to be quite regulars, three wins on the night which was now making winning the Sun Inn trophy more of a reality, it stands about 30 inches high, one more round to go next Wednesday night. 14th July Bassenthwaite Final Round Sun Inn Trophy As all sports there’s a few stalwarts that make things happen and Darren Hudson and his band of merry men being no exception, but that night the track was beyond their control after a really wet few days and it was not the place you wanted to be. Race 1 - I spun on the gate, was last round the first corner and pulled through to 3rd position. Race 2 – Making sure I wasn’t having a repeat of the first race I had a start to finish win. Looking towards the fells and the massive black cloud that was heading our way the organisers cancelled the last race, and I was pleased to take the Sun Inn Trophy back home, with a collection of 9 wins a second and a 3rd over the series. July 17th – Broughton Carnival Day – had a few mates through and a BBQ, we had said good bye the day previous to one of our village’s great characters Edwin Varty and reflected on him not being in the procession, he had been in 50 of Broughtons Carnivals during his life time. Sunday 18th/ Tuesday 20th & Thursday 22th – Due to bad weather, I got some practising at the beach near Sellafield, I glow a bit greener every time I come back, this track is about a minute long but the precision that’s needed is immense. 25th July - British Maxxis at Foxhill. Qualified 14th , Race 1 – I had a good drop and holeshotted (see as an attachment the next British Maxxis advert for Round 7 at Silverstone) my holeshot is on the flyer, real pleased for all my sponsors to get you up and close. I held on to 8th place until last couple of laps tense up and got arm pump so had to settle for 12th, Race 2 , lost the front end in a corner and slipped off a few laps in, head down worked hard to get back up to 14th. Race 3 – not such a good start pulled through to 13th on pace and getting through the traffic just took the last lap flag and my chain snapped. Lying 16th in the championship hoping to pick some more points up at the next rounds. 31st July & 1st Aug – Dirt 321.co.uk This was a last minute descion to enter the event, there was four classes of racing, Enduro, Enduro X, MX, Super Cross, dropping your lowest score. I decided to sit the Enduro X out; I might have had a go on my Trials bike but couldn’t see the 450CC making it work. After a good run on the Enduro 4 minute laps with my times getting quicker & quicker I was moving up the leader board but fluffed the last pipe section on the last lap to finish in 8th place. The Super cross was next and after hitting the first corner second, I managed to keep the same lap times as the leader who is from America renound for its Super cross riders, Gordon Crockard eventually came passed he’s another Rider with a lot of Super cross experience. I came in 3rd place, getting on the podium which was a good achievement. (See Pic) Sunday was MX day and I had a 5th Race 1 all 5 riders being separated by only 10 seconds, at the finish flag and a 3rd in Race 2. I finished 4th overall and was glad I had gone, there’s a lot more to be gained from racing than just practising, the only down side of the weekend was my friend Jonny “ WOBBLER” Walker received a 30 second penalty in the Enduro X. He had passed World Champion Dougie Lampkin, when a fine drizzle started and he slipped off at the log section, great ride Jonny, next time mate. Thanks again to you all for all your help this season things are really coming together, I hope with the pics and advertising it’s all good for business. Till next time

Wow, got on the front of the British Champs ad in ACU mag for round 7. Cool. Take a look. Jamie.

Wales

13-07-2010

The last weekend in Wales didn’t go as well as I’d hoped with a crash in the first race and 11th in the second. Not my fault as someone fell in front of me but frustrating just the same. I wanted more! Then we went upto Cadwell Park for a track day and although it was soaking wet it was really good fun. We were on full wets and to be honest there is so much grip it’s like riding in the dry. Check the pic of me in the wet. Soon forgot the weekend! Jamie

Things are getting better!

12-07-2010

Won the Red Bull Dash for Cash at Whitby a few weeks ago and so far had 8 wins out of 9 races at the Bassenthwaite Summer Series. In the National MX1 series we are running 1st privateer so things are going are way at this stage of the season. It’s going to be tough but we have to keep focused and keep momentum to the end of the season. Jamie.

Update

28-05-2010

Hi All Time seems to be flying and its June already , this is normally when three months racings starts to take its toll, this May being no exception but what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger they say. Still suffering with my shoulder injury, we set off to Little Silver Devon for the first MX323, I went poll in qualifying only to drop to second just minutes before closing, Race 1, my start was poor, but I came through the pack quite strong and finished 2nd. Race 2 better start but I took off sideways down a steep hill, and I had to put my foot out to save myself and took a massive ground shock up through my foot, heel & ankle. I now have two black big toes a bruised heel and a bloody sore knee, my bad knee. I limped home in 6th and finished 4th in Race 3 taking 4th Overall, the next round is at Frome - Devon again 31st May. I had a real quiet week and couldn’t decide weather to race at British Championship at Duns, I didn’t want to have a no score in the series, as all round count, I had a play at Broughton Track on the digger and made it a lot better and had a practise Friday morning where we took the decision to sit it out as I was feelin it. It was great to go to the British’s Superbikes on Bank Holiday Monday, I took my sister for her Birthday, I met up with Charles from Relentless who done us a good deal on complimentary passes and got us into the pit lane and it was great to see the Relentless Guys Michael Laverty & Alistair Steeley have such good result, and also I’m looking forward to the Suzuki day where I can ride round the circuit myself. After missing Duns I had a midweek practise Tues/Wed and although I’m still sore, its a feeling that you live with in MX racing as extreme sport does take it toll, I entered the British Masters at Whitby, qualified 7th and finished 10th Overall with 9th & 11th, the track is quite technical and jumpy, I was on pace until half way then slipped back a little, this race series has only 2 races 25mins plus a lap and those extra 5 mins were taking a toll especially as I hadn’t had a lot of bike time recently. Great to have Mark & Sam across from Lakeland Spas and Stuart from NME in the awning, but I’m sorry next time Stuart you’ll have to have a Spa jacket on, none of this Proppa .com gear. May 16th Red Bull Pro Canada Heights - Missed due to Infection 2 x lots of antibiotics May 21st Wakeboarding Relentless Day - Cancelled Haverigg – May 29th - Sat May 31st British MX323 – Frome Local meeting at Whittas Park Bassenthwaite Sun/Mon 30th/ 31st I wont be at this event but will be at the Wednesday Nights Wed 2nd/9th June & 14th& 21st July to defend my Sun Inn Trophy I won last year. A great opportunity for my local sponsors to get connected and hopefully bring your shorts for the hot tub. June 13th Maxxis British Lyng Till next time Thanks again Jamie
